Active at 60

Are you aged 50 plus and want to do activities that exercise your body and mind? Then why not join SVI’s Active at 60 Programme

Starts Wednesday 13 July – 2pm to 4pm – at the Deaf Resource Centre

Research shows that people who remain active as they approach 60 are more likely to stay fitter for longer. SVI has been given a grant to work with visually impaired people and friends to hold a series of activities that stimulate the body and mind.

We have had lots of good ideas and are now looking for people who would like to either:

  • Become a volunteer ‘Community Agent’ and help us to organise a range of healthy body, healthy mind activities.
  • Join the programme to take part in informative and healthy activities.

The Active at 60 programme will start on Wednesday 13 July. We will meet at the Deaf Resource Centre at 2pm and take a guided walk around Dartmouth Park. We will visit the outdoor gym and SVI’s new sensory garden – where you can just take a short stroll or try a work out in the fresh air!

Don’t worry if this sounds too strenuous there are picnic tables nearby where you can relax and enjoy the park. We will then make our way back to the DRC for a 4pm return home.

Other ideas for activities include:

  • a tour of Sandwell Valley Farm
  • History visit to the Oak House
  • Museum walk to the Sandwell Priory archaeological site
  • bowling
  • bird and bat walks
  • plus a whole lot more.

So come on volunteer to be a ‘community agent’ or just join us and learn more about Sandwell’s history and the way nature changes our environment.
